“MLKJr Day (I Have A Dream)”
*This poem is made entirely of lines from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech*
(I have a dream)
The greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation
(I have a dream)
A great beacon light of hope to millions
(I have a dream)
A joyous daybreak to end the long night
(I have a dream)
A promissory note to which every American was to fall heir
(I have a dream)
All men guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
(I have a dream)
This sacred obligation
(I have a dream)
The great vaults of opportunity of this nation
(I have a dream)
Make real the promises of democracy
(I have a dream)
The sunlit path of racial justice
(I have a dream)
From the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood
(I have a dream)
Make justice a reality for all of god’s children
(I have a dream)
An invigorating autumn of freedom and equality
(I have a dream)
Let us not seek our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred
(I have a dream)
We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline
(I have a dream)
We must not allow our creative protests to degenerate into physical violence
(I have a dream)
Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force
(I have a dream)
We cannot walk alone
(I have a dream)
We shall always march ahead
(I have a dream)
We cannot turn back
(I have a dream)
We will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream
(I have a dream)
Unearned suffering is redemptive
(I have a dream)
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal
(I have a dream)
Sit down together at the table of brotherhood
(I have a dream)
An oasis of freedom and justice
(I have a dream)
Little black boys and little black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and little white girls as sisters and brothers
(I have a dream)
The glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together
(I have a dream)
The rough places will be made plain and the crooked places will be made straight
(I have a dream)
Hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope
(I have a dream)
Transform the jangling dischords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood
(I have a dream)
With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day
(I have a dream)
This will be the day when all of god’s children will be able to sing with new meaning, “my country, ‘tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee i sing.’
(I have a dream)
From every mountain side, let freedom ring
